Greenslit becomes third active men's soccer player to garner NSCAA/adidas All-America accolades three times

December 12, 2005

NORTON, MA- Wheaton College men's soccer standout James Greenslit (Framingham, MA/Rivers School) was one of just three players to garner National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas NCAA Division III All-America accolades for the third time among the 37 members of this year's teams. With the award, Wheaton runs its streak of All-America selections to 10 seasons dating back to 1996, with Greenslit figuring in the last three.

Greenslit, who was tabbed to the third team for the third straight season, is the seventh Lyon to earn the award. He was one of seven players from a New England school to pick up the honor and one of only two from the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC).

In addition to his All-America laurel, Greenslit was named to the NSCAA All-New England and NEWMAC All-Conference first teams. The senior back was also voted NEWMAC Player of the Year by the league's coaches for the second consecutive season.

Wheaton's tri-captain anchored one of the school's stingiest defenses in program history, holding opponents to only 16 goals with a 0.78 goals against average and 10 shutouts. The 16 goals allowed ranks in a tie for third in Wheaton's record book. Greenslit led the Lyons to their third straight NCAA Tournament with an overall record of 13-5-2 and conference mark of 5-0-1. Receiving votes in the final national poll, Wheaton captured its fifth NEWMAC regular season and tournament crowns in the eight-year history of the conference.

During his standout four-year career, Greenslit tied for fourth in the program's annals with 81 games played. After playing in a reserve role in his first three collegiate games as a freshman, Greenslit started the final 78 contests in which he appeared, including a 70-match games started streak to end his career. Over his final three seasons, in which he started every game, the Lyons limited their opponents to 53 goals in 67 contests while posting 32 shutouts.

The Lyons registered a 64-17-6 overall record and 20-3-1 conference mark with two regular season conference titles and a pair of tournament championships during Greenslit's career. Wheaton qualified for three NCAA Tournaments during his career, including the school's first Final Four appearance his sophomore season.

The NSCAA/adidas All-America teams are determined through voting by NSCAA member coaches. The honorees will be invited to the NSCAA All-America luncheon, which will be held on Saturday, January 21 as part of the 59th annual NSCAA convention in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
