Greenslit and Lane draw NSCAA/adidas NCAA All-New England honorsDecember 12, 2005 NORTON, MA- The Wheaton College men's soccer team placed a pair of players on the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas NCAA Division III All-New England East first team. The teams were announced by the Division III New England area representative to the All-America selection committee, Jon Anderson of Babson College. Senior James Greenslit (Framingham, MA/Rivers School) earned his third straight selection, while freshman Dan Lane (Dedham, MA/Worcester Academy) notched his initial honor. Only two other freshmen earned All-New England nods, with each placing on the East and West second teams, respectively. Greenslit, a key backfield stopper and two-time New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Player of the Year, anchored a defense which yielded only 16 goals in 20 games, posted 10 shutouts and allowed more than one goal just three times. The tri-captain started all 20 games, converted both of his assists during Wheaton's NEWMAC Tournament championship game victory and was a NEWMAC All-Conference first team selection for the third straight season. Greenslit finished his career by starting 78 of 81 games, including the last 70 matches, and was one of only five repeat honorees on the two East squads. Lane completed his initial college campaign by being named the NEWMAC Rookie of the Year and drawing a NEWMAC All-Conference first team selection. The first-year forward led Wheaton with 13 goals and 29 points, his three assists tied for the team lead, and his goals and points totals broke the program's freshman standards. Lane finished one point shy of becoming the ninth Lyon with 30 points in a season while playing a hand in 16 of the Blue and White's 35 goals. For the season, Lane tallied seven go-ahead goals, five of which held up as game-winners, while assisting on two game-winning markers. The Lyons completed the fall with an appearance in the first round of the NCAA Tournament and a 13-5-2 overall mark after posting a near-perfect 5-0-1 record in NEWMAC play. After capturing its fifth regular season conference title in the NEWMAC's eight-year history, Wheaton took home the fifth postseason league crown in program history. The Blue and White qualified for its third consecutive NCAA Tournament and fifth in six years. This page is maintained by Scott Dietz. Last updated on 12/12/05. |
