Thompson makes 400M finals during day two of NCAA ChampionshipMay 23, 2008 OSHKOSH, WI- Wheaton College track and field sophomore Renee Thompson (Hartford, CT/Weaver) continued a quest for her first All-America honor in an individual event by qualifying for Saturday's 400-meter dash finals during Friday's trials at the NCAA Division III Track and Field Championship in the University of Wisconsin at Oshkosh's Titan Stadium. Thompson was among three Lyons competing on day two of the three-day meet. Thompson, a two-time All-American, placed fourth in her six-athlete heat, turning in a 57.44 showing as one of nine competitors to make the finals. She edged out the 10th-place finisher by 0.06 seconds to claim her spot in Saturday's championship. Thompson's heat produced four finals qualifiers, the most among the three trials races. Freshman Erin Neville (North Providence, RI/La Salle Academy) competed in the high jump on Friday but fell shy of duplicating the All-America status she earned during the indoor season. In a field of 18 athletes, Neville was the lone freshman. Also in action was junior Chizoba Ezeigwe (Brockton, MA/Thayer Academy) in the 100-meter dash trials. The six-time All-American finished sixth in the first of three heats. Thompson competes twice during the final day of action on Saturday, beginning with the 400-meter finals at 2:10 p.m. In the last women's event of the championship, Ezeigwe, Thompson, junior Natana Jules (Brooklyn, NY/Boys and Girls) and sophomore Kelly Libert (New Haven, CT/James Hillhouse) will take part in the 4x400M relay finals at 4:45 p.m. Ezeigwe, Jules and Thompson each previously earned All-America honors, while Libert seeks her first.
