Harlow captures ECAC high jump title as Wheaton finishes fifth

SPRINGFIELD, MA- Sophomore Jennifer Harlow (East Bridgewater, MA/East Bridgewater) captured the high jump title at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship to lead the Wheaton College women's outdoor track and field team to a fifth-place finish in the two-day meet held at Springfield College. The Lyons tallied 36.5 points out of 50 scoring teams, while the Wheaton men did not score in the meet.

Harlow secured a spot in next weekend's NCAA Division III Championship held at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa, clearing a national meet provisional qualifying height of 5' 6 1/2". Senior captain Kathrine Wallace (Glenmoore, PA/The Hill School) placed fourth overall in the event with a provisional qualifying mark of 5' 4 1/2".

Harlow and Wallace also played a part in two of Wheaton's running events, with Harlow taking fifth place in the 100-meter hurdles in 15.56 and Wallace running a leg on the Lyons' fifth-place 4x100-meter relay team. Wallace joined senior captain Jessica Allegra (East Hampton, CT/East Hampton) and first-year athletes Julie McLane (New Canaan, CT/New Canaan) and Chelsea Nader (Ardmore, PA/Lower Merion).

Like Harlow, McLane advanced to the finals of the 100-meter hurdles event, where she finished sixth overall in a time of 15.64. McLane also recorded a fifth-place mark in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:04.77.

Rounding out Wheaton's top performances was sophomore Crystal Blamy (Walpole, NH/Fall Mountain Regional) placing in a tie for seventh in the high jump with a provisional qualifying standard of 5' 4 1/2" and freshmen Cassandra Migani (Brooklyn, CT/Norwich Free Academy) and Christy Bell (Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville) taking seventh and ninth, respectively in the javelin throw.

On the men's side, senior captain Jamaal Rawls-Payton (Stoughton, MA/Stoughton) raced to an 11th-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles event. Senior Chris Wilbur (Weymouth, MA/Weymouth) took 13th in the javelin throw, while junior captain Ajay Sisodia (Andover, MA/Andover) placed 14th in the 200-meter dash.

The Wheaton teams wrap up their seasons at next weekend's three-day national championship meet. Competition in Iowa begins on Thursday, May 26.
