Lyons boast four event titles at Northeastern's Solomon Husky Invitational

DEDHAM, MA- The Wheaton College men's and women's outdoor track and field teams captured four individual event championships at this weekend's Solomon Husky Invitational. The non-scoring meet was hosted by Northeastern University and held at Solomon Track in Dedham.

Senior captain Jessica Allegra (East Hampton, CT/East Hampton) and freshman Julie McLane (New Canaan, CT/New Canaan) secured the top marks in the 400-meter dash and 400-meter hurdles events, respectively, while junior captain Ajay Sisodia (Andover, MA/Andover) emerged victorious in the 400M race. The women's 4x400-meter relay, consisting of Allegra, McLane, senior captain Kathrine Wallace (Glenmoore, PA/The Hill School) and freshman Chelsea Nader (Ardmore, PA/Lower Merion), rounded out Wheaton's event winners.

Nader also placed fourth overall in the 400-meter dash, while McLane and sophomore Jennifer Harlow (East Bridgewater, MA/East Bridgewater) took fifth and seventh, respectively, in the 100-meter hurdles. Wheaton's 4x100-meter relay finished second to Northeastern, as the team was comprised of Allegra, Harlow, Nader and McLane.

Sophomore Crystal Blamy (Walpole, NH/Fall Mountain Regional) highlighted Wheaton's field events after placing in a tie for second in the high jump. Harlow and Wallace both finished in a tie for sixth in the event. Sophomore Stephanie Cummings (Princeton, MA/Worcester Academy) and senior Marcie Howard (Ascutney, VT/Windsor) placed in a tie for fifth and seventh, respectively, in the pole vault, while Wallace, Harlow and first-year Marie Swieta (West Monroe, NY/Altmar-Parish-Williamstown) went fifth, sixth and seventh in the triple jump.

The Lyons had four of their throwers in the javelin event, led by freshman Cassandra Migani (Brooklyn, CT/Norwich Free Academy). Migani took fourth overall, sophomore Katelyn Teixeira (Seekonk, MA/Seekonk) fifth, freshman Christy Bell (Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville) sixth and senior captain Kirsten Larsen (Hampden, MA/Minnechaug Regional) eighth.

For the men, Wheaton's 4x400-meter relay team, comprised of senior captain Patrick Freytag (Pittsford, NY/McQuaid Jesuit) and juniors Ross Kahill (South Portland, ME/South Portland), Ryan English (New Hartford, CT/Northwestern) and Eric Richardson (Walpole, MA/Bishop Feehan), took runner-up honors. Freytag also placed fifth in the 400-meter hurdles, while first-year Pat Benson (Foxboro, MA/Bishop Feehan) was fifth in the 5,000-meter run.

Richardson was seventh in the 5,000M, while English took ninth in the 400-meter hurdles and Kahill 10th in the 800-meter run. In the field events, Freytag stood ninth in the javelin throw, while freshman Evan Bell (Newport, ME/Nokomis) placed 10th and 11th in the shot put and discus throw events, respectively.

The Wheaton teams will serve double duty next weekend, as the Lyons will send three women high jumpers to the prestigious Penn Relays on Thursday followed by Saturday's New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championships at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI).
