March 18, 2006

SAN DIEGO, CA- Four Wheaton College outdoor track and field athletes notched victories during the 28th annual San Diego State University Aztec Classic this weekend at the SDSU Sports Deck. A pair of Lyon women also recorded provisional qualifications for the NCAA Division III Championship.

Wheaton's men provided a sweep of the 100-, 200- and 400-meter dash events on Saturday. Freshman Michael Wright (Baldwin, NY/Uniondale) won the 100M in 10.99, just 0.27 seconds shy of the school record, while classmate Jonathan Cunha (Lexington, MA/Lexington) took first in the 400M in a time of 48.82. Senior Ajay Sisodia (Andover, MA/Andover) came in fourth among 400M participants.

During the 200M competition, the Lyons took the top three spots, as Sisodia paced the field in 22.01 while falling 0.23 ticks short of the program standard, Cunha came in second at 22.02, and Wright was third in 22.06.

In the first outdoor race of her college career, freshman Chizoba Ezeigwe (Brockton, MA/Thayer Academy) met NCAA provisional times in a pair of events. Ezeigwe placed second in the 400-meter dash in 56.04, just 0.32 seconds behind a San Diego State runner, while claiming sixth in the 200-meter dash at 24.85, just 0.22 seconds out of a tie for second place.

Sophomore Megan Brousseau's (Attleboro, MA/Attleboro) third-place finish of 4:41.72 in the 1,500-meter run was 1.95 seconds off a four-year-old school record, and classmate Cassandra Migani (Brooklyn, CT/Norwich Free Academy) placed sixth in the javelin competition and 10th in the discus.

A week after earning the national crown during the indoor high jump competition, Harlow won the high jump in Friday's open competition with a 5' 5" leap, which is a provisional qualifying standard. Freshman Lauren Reddy (Walnut Creek, CA/Carondelet) placed third in Friday's 5,000-meter run with a personal-best time of 19:39.80.

Wheaton takes a week off before competing at the Tufts Invitational on Saturday, April 1.
