Wheaton track teams post solid marks at New England Championships

May 14, 2005

DURHAM, NH- The Wheaton College men's and women's outdoor track and field teams competed at the New England Championships on the University of New Hampshire campus this weekend, as the women placed 13th and the men in a tie for 31st at the Reginald F. Atkins Facility. The women tallied 25.5 points among the 34 scoring teams, while the men had four points in the 36-team pool.

Senior captain Kirsten Larsen (Hampden, MA/Minnechaug Regional) highlighted the women's meet with a NCAA Division III national meet provisional qualifying standard in the javelin throw, as her toss of 141' 8" marked the third-longest distance in the country. She finished with runner-up honors at the all-division meet.

Sophomore Jennifer Harlow (East Bridgewater, MA/East Bridgewater) and senior captain Kathrine Wallace (Glenmoore, PA/The Hill School) also reached provisional qualifying marks in the high jump event. Both cleared a height of 5' 5", with Harlow taking second place and Wallace finishing fourth overall.

Harlow also competed on Wheaton's sixth-place 4x100-meter relay team, as senior captain Jessica Allegra (East Hampton, CT/East Hampton) and first-year athletes Julie McLane (New Canaan, CT/New Canaan) and Chelsea Nader (Ardmore, PA/Lower Merion) nearly missed a provisional qualifying mark with a time of 49.40.

Allegra provided the Lyons with valuable points in the 400-meter dash, finishing seventh overall in 59.29, while McLane placed ninth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:05.98.

Junior captain Ajay Sisodia (Andover, MA/Andover) represented the men in the 200- and 400-meter dash events. Sisodia was just six-hundredths of a second shy of Wheaton's eight-year record in the 200-meter dash, taking fifth overall in 22.43. His preliminaries time of 21.84 nearly missed the 21.78 school mark set back in 1997. Sisodia finished 12th in the 400M event.

Wheaton next travels to Springfield College on Thursday, May 19 for the two-day Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships, as the Lyons will look to post additional qualifiers for the upcoming NCAA Division III Championships held on May 26-28.
