Wheaton high jumpers lead way at Brown Invitational, Lyon women take eighth and men place 10th overall

PROVIDENCE, RI- The Wheaton College men's and women's outdoor track and field teams continued their seasons at the Brown Springtime Invitational Saturday. The women took eighth with 31.5 points and the men 10th with 10 points in the Division-I dominated meet.

The women high jumpers highlighted Wheaton's performances, as senior captain Kathrine Wallace (Glenmoore, PA/The Hill School) and sophomore Jennifer Harlow (East Bridgewater, MA/East Bridgewater) captured the top two collegiate spots in the event. Both Wallace and Harlow posted NCAA Division III national meet provisional qualifying heights, with Wallace clearing 5' 5 3/4" and Harlow 5' 5". Sophomore Crystal Blamy (Walpole, NH/Fall Mountain Regional) finished in a tie for eighth with a jump of 5' 3".

Freshman Julie McLane (New Canaan, CT/New Canaan) narrowly missed provisional qualifying standards in the 100- and 400-meter hurdles, placing sixth in the 400M event in 1:05.38 and ninth in the 100M hurdles in 15.78. Harlow took 11th in the 100M race. Seniors Lindsay Whalen (Dedham, MA/Dedham) and Jessica Allegra (East Hampton, CT/East Hampton) rounded out Wheaton's top individual track finishes by finishing seventh and 10th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and 100-meter dash events, respectively.

Allegra, Wallace, McLane and freshman Chelsea Nader (Ardmore, PA/Lower Merion) competed in the 4x400-meter relay and placed sixth overall. In the field, freshman Christy Bell (Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville) took five in the javelin, while classmate Cassandra Migani (Brooklyn, CT/Norwich Free Academy) and sophomore Katelyn Teixeira (Seekonk, MA/Seekonk) finished seventh and in a tie for ninth, respectively. Migani also captured a ninth-place finish in the discus throw.

On the men's side, junior captain Ajay Sisodia (Andover, MA/Andover) was close to hitting a pair of provisional qualifying standards in the 100- and 200-meter dash events. Advancing to the finals of the 100, Sisodia placed fourth overall in 11.17. He also managed a fourth-place result in the 200M event with a time of 22.28. Senior captain Jamaal Rawls-Payton (Stoughton, MA/Stoughton) took ninth in the 110-meter hurdles event.

Senior Chris Wilbur (Weymouth, MA/Weymouth) and freshman Evan Bell (Newport, ME/Nokomis) had Wheaton's top field finishes, both placing 12th overall in the javelin and shot put events, respectively.

The Lyons are back in action one week from today, when they travel to Boston to compete in the Solomon Husky Invitational held at Northeastern University.
