Wheaton track teams both finish with ties at ECAC Championships

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA- The Wheaton College men's and women's outdoor track and field teams both finished with ties at this weekend's Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships hosted by Williams College. The women finished in a knot for 13th place with 23.33 points, while the men were in a five-way tie for 17th place with 14 points.

Highlighting the meet for the men was senior Terry Panetta (Hicksville, NY/St. Anthony's), who broke a school record in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 3:57.04. Finishing fourth, Panetta was a mere four-hundredths of a second off the third place time. Classmate Erik Benson (Southbury, CT/Pomperaug) placed eighth in the 400-meter dash in 49.27.

In the field, junior Dan Olson (Voorheesville, NY/Albany Academy) posted a runner-up finish in the high jump with a height of 6' 5 1/2". Classmate Chris Wilbur (Weymouth, MA/Weymouth) placed 15th overall in the javelin with a throw of 162' 10".

On the women's side, freshman Alison Amendola (Franklin, MA/Franklin) posted an NCAA Division III national meet provisional qualifying time with a seventh-place mark in the 200-meter dash in 25.21. Junior Jessica Allegra (East Hampton, CT/East Hampton) finished ninth overall in the 400-meter dash in 59.33, while first-year Jennifer Harlow (East Bridgewater, MA/East Bridgewater) tied for ninth in the 100-meter hurdles in 15.55.

Junior Kirsten Larsen (Hampden, MA/Minnechaug Regional) and freshman Katelyn Teixeira (Seekonk, MA/Seekonk) each posted a provisional mark in the javelin throw. Larsen took third with a distance of 136' 6" and Teixeira was fifth at 127' 1". In the high jump event, freshman Crystal Blamy (Walpole, NH/Fall Mountain View) placed in a tie for second at 5' 4 1/4", while Harlow and junior Kathrine Wallace (Glenmoore, PA/The Hill School) were knotted in sixth place at 5' 4 1/4".
