Wheaton field hockey slated to travel to Argentina from March 7-16March 5, 2008
ANSON'S STATISTICS
NORTON, MA- The Wheaton College field hockey team will spend March 7-16 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, as the squad is slated to play three games against local teams as the highlight of its first trip abroad under eighth-year head coach Rebecca Begley. The Lyons' three contests will occur on consecutive days, from March 11-13, under the lights each night. Wheaton will face Club Atletico San Isidro on the first night, Gimnasia y Esgrima de Buenos Aires the next and Club Universitario de Buenos Aires the final evening. The trip will include many highlights beyond the competition. The Lyons will have a training session on Monday with Claudio Junquet, who is a former Argentinean men's national team's assistant coach. On Saturday, March 15, Wheaton plans to attend the third game in the United States U21 national team's four-game series against Argentina. At different points during the 10-day stretch, Wheaton will also run a field hockey clinic, attend a professional soccer match and travel to Estancia Santa Susana, a ranch in Buenos Aires. Wheaton went 13-7 last fall, including 6-2 in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC), and set a program record for league wins. For the second straight year, the Blue and White advanced to the league tournament semifinals before competing in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Tournament. The team's 28 wins during the past two seasons are the most in any two-year span in program history. This page is maintained by Scott Dietz. Last updated on 7/22/08. |
