Gingras named Wheaton's first ABCA All-America pitcher since 2002

May 27, 2008

NORTON, MA- Wheaton College baseball standout Adam Gingras (Woonsocket, RI/Woonsocket) became the program's first pitcher since 2002 and the third in school history to garner American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) All-America laurels, as the junior was named to the second team.

Earning the Lyons' seventh ABCA All-America honor in eight years, Gingras was also named an All-America honorable mention by D3baseball.com. One of just three New England pitchers tabbed to an ABCA or D3baseball.com All-America team, the righthander was the lone representative from the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC).

In addition to being tabbed with his first national honor, Gingras was previously chosen to the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) all-region first team. He was also voted NEWMAC Pitcher of the Year while earning a spot on the all-conference first squad.

Gingras turned in one of the top seasons by a Wheaton pitcher in school history, matching the program wins record by going 8-0 with a 1.70 earned run average and 47 strikeouts in 68.2 innings. He walked 11 batters while surrendering a .199 opposing average.

Ranked 17th among Division III pitchers in ERA and 23rd in hits allowed per nine innings (6.42), Gingras tied a school mark with two shutouts and yielded two runs or fewer in each of his last eight starts. In his final six outings, he fanned 29 and walked three in 41 innings.

Gingras led the conference in ERA, runs allowed and earned runs surrendered while tying for first in wins and innings pitched.

For his career, Gingras boasts a 10-1 record and 2.09 ERA with 84 strikeouts and 23 walks in 120.1 innings. In 27 appearances, including 16 starts, Gingras has turned in three complete games. Opponents have hit .225 off of him.

The Lyons completed the spring at 34-10, having automatically qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the eighth time in nine seasons. Wheaton's 34 wins matched the program's third-highest single-season total. The Blue and White captured its ninth NEWMAC Tournament title in the league's 10-year history. In the latest ABCA national poll, the Lyons are ranked 17th.
