Profile
Josh Kessler begins his fourth year as Wheaton's assistant sports information director. Kessler, who previously gained valuable experience at both the NCAA Division I and II levels, joined the Division III ranks as the school's first full-time sports information assistant.
In addition to campus committee work, Kessler serves as the sports information liaison for New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's volleyball. Outside of Wheaton, he has spotted for Harvard University's men's and women's basketball statistics crew while serving as an official scorer for the Brockton Rox professional baseball team the last three years.
Kessler came to Wheaton after being employed as the sports publicity intern for Dartmouth College from July 2004 to June 2005. Publicizing Dartmouth's 34 Ivy League varsity sports, Kessler worked extensively with the baseball, field hockey and nationally-ranked women's ice hockey teams. He also served as the secondary contact for the men's basketball team.
Prior to joining Dartmouth's sports publicity staff, Kessler worked for four years as a volunteer student assistant in the Saint Michael's College sports information department. Having his hands in all areas of media relations for the school's 21 varsity athletic programs, Kessler was appointed acting sports information director for two short stints.
During his stay at both Dartmouth and Saint Michael's, Kessler wrote feature stories, biographies, season previews and reviews for campus publications and media guides. He also spent a vast amount of time researching individual and team records for publications and record books for numerous programs.
In June 2003, Kessler received the Bill Esposito Award from the Eastern College Athletic Conference Sports Information Directors' Association (ECAC-SIDA), presented to a graduating college senior who wishes to pursue a career in athletic communications. He also picked up the George "Doc" Jacobs Award, given to a Saint Michael's student who makes an outstanding contribution to the athletic department.
A member of both the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and ECAC-SIDA, Kessler co-chaired a table topic at last year's ECAC-SIDA Workshop in Saratoga Springs, New York.
Kessler is a Colchester, Vermont, native and 2004 graduate of Saint Michael's, where he earned a bachelor's degree in journalism and mass communication.
