Profile

Dave Begley was hired as Wheaton's first full-time director of intramurals, recreation and club sports in August 2005. Begley had served as the school's part-time coordinator of the intramural and club sports programs since August 2001.

Over the last six years, Begley has had a hand in helping intramural student participation rise from 12 to 47 percent. Increasing the number of club sports to a present total of 15 programs, Begley devised Wheaton's first club sports handbook while implementing risk management policies for all intramural and club sports. In addition to evaluating all club sports coaches, he is responsible for the training and supervision of a student staff.

Begley's experiences and relationships at Wheaton enabled him to serve as the athletic department chair for Community Day during President Ronald Crutcher's Inauguration Weekend in April 2005. He also chairs the Head of the Peacock, an annual on-campus event that kicks off Wheaton's Spring Weekend.

A member of the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA), Begley serves on the Massachusetts Constitutional Committee, where he is charged with writing the first Massachusetts Intramural-Recreation Sports Association (MIRSA) constitution.

Begley earned a bachelor's degree with honors in history from Bridgewater State College in 2004. A Dean's List student while at Bridgewater State, Begley began his undergraduate studies in aerospace flight technology at Kent State University in Kent, Ohio.
