Yeesh, it's Wednesday evening and I'm still lounging around, recovering from reunion weekend. (I guess being unemployed DOES have some benefits to it.) Sunday afternoon we were sorting through the last of the empties, decorations and leftovers from the BBQ and marveled at how many people came back and how much fun everyone had.

Thanks to everyone that came back to campus (and those that just came back to Wendell's Friday night as well.) I believe we had an official turnout of 59 or so, enough to win the highest attendance award, but when all was said and done we managed to get over 75 people back on to campus.

The BBQ on Friday was a blast with Tony Miller and JP Burlington '99 manning the grill and keeping the food coming. A few hours later the class reconvened at Wendell's and the Wheaton alums managed to pack the place, as always. After closing the old haunt down after many wings and pitchers most of us managed to make last call at the Loft. I think most of us can agree that the current students have no idea how good they have it! The Loft has at least 10 beers on tap and in bottle not to mention a frozen beverage machine! Things closed out Friday night with the now-traditional waffle ball game, this time against the class of '02. No one was really keeping track of the score (or the outs at certain times) but we did manage to obliterate every wiffleball we brought along for the weekend.

Saturday's commencement saw another batch of classmates arrive to watch the whippersnappers graduate and hear Mary Robinson's great speech. On a personal note it was rather odd to carry the banner through the lineup and see all the alums and students. At least one graduating senior made note that "this was history walking by" when he saw the men in the procession... of course we told him '94 was where things started to go downhill.

The cocktail party saw a guest appearance by members of the class of '44 and their gift bottle of champagne. We were flattered to have the '44's visit and spend some time with us. Actually, many of the '99 folks crashed the party not to mention a handful of '02 folks as well. It seems like almost everyone wandered through Meadows East during the weekend (especially if you count the mystery stranger passed out on our couch Friday night.)

Finally, the class dinner brought the classes from the 70's and 80's together with the rest of the young alums for some decent food (well, for Mariott it wasn't all that bad) and a chance to give Dale a final toast as well as an appearance by our new president, Dr. Crutcher. Then it was another round of drinks at the Loft and a lot of catching up in the Meadows parlor as people started to wind down.

Sunday the last things to do were the memorial service and tree dedication for Chris Stevens then hit the farewell brunch. The tree for Chris is located directly outside of Chase Square. A number of folks stayed to share their memories of Chris and his parents thank everyone for their thoughts and best wishes wherever you might be.

The farewell brunch was nice but the wait for an omelet was about 20 minutes... so it was waffle bar and cereal for a lot of people. It was rather disappointing to note the lack of Tri-Taters but things have changed and we all must move on.

It was a great weekend and thanks to everyone who came by and everyone who helped out.

Finally, we have a new slate of officers for the coming five year term:

Class Fund Agents: Stacey Stapleton, Sandi Herbst
Treasurer: Hank Meyer
Co-secretaries: Amity Moore, Deb Larkin McHugh
Vice President: Emily McHugh
President: Boon Sheridan

We'll get photos posted in the next few days so check back next week or so!

Class Gift

Our class gift supports Wheaton through the Annual Fund. This year's Annual Fund goal is $3.3 million. The Annul Fund helps bridge the gap between tuition revenue and the actual cost of educating students. While endowed funds are invested to ensure the College's future strength, the Annual Fund acts as a "living endowment" allowing 100% of your gift to be spent immediately on the College's most important priorities.

Our Annual Fund gifts are vitally important in supporting a wide variety of programs and educational experiences for our students and maintaining a select student body and committed faculty.

Gifts of every amount to the Annual Fund are important--no matter the size--our collective giving and participation counts. For those who can consider it, one way to set a goal for personal annual giving is to join the Mary Lyon Society.
