Black Alumnae/i News & NotesStacey Jordan '90Stacey recently relocated from New York City to Providence, R.I., where she has been selected as the mayor of Providence's special assistant on education. Jordan previously ran the Office of Strategic Partnerships in New York, an organization that raises funds for school programs. In her new role, Stacey is being asked to help polish the Providence school district's tarnished image. She is working with a coalition of urban mayors to address financing challenges and is involved in an outside review of the school's budget. Stacy holds a master's degree in social welfare policy from the University of Texas. Sheri Young '92Sheri has been appointed the new Director of Policy for the W.K. Kellogg Foundation. She will relocating from Washington, D.C. to Michigan to take on her new post. The W.K. Kellogg Foundation is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to apply knowledge to solve the problems of people. Its founder W.K. Kellogg, the cereal industry pioneer, established the Foundation in 1930. Since its beginning the Foundation has continuously focused on building the capacity of individuals, communities, and institutions to solve their own problems. Tony Laing '96In addition to his full-time job at the Department of Media Studies at the New School in New York, Tony Laing is serving as the CFO of the G&G Production Company, an arts and entertainment production and management company in Newark, New Jersey. G&G is producing Miyorka: A Different Kind of Love Story, a musical inspired by West Side Story and Cinderella, in New York beginning June 2005, and Laing is the Assistant Director of the production. Miyorka is an urban musical set in the year 2075, performed by a multicultural cast, and featuring soulful, classical and R&B music. For more information, check out TheaterMania.com. Questions? Johnson, Ph.D. was recently appointed Executive Director of Inter-Faith Housing Alliance (I-FHA) in Philadelphia. I-FHA is an organization helping families overcome homelessness. Johnson has had an impressive career that spans the corporate, non-profit, academic and government sectors. She is also the author of an autobiographical book entitled When There Are No More Tears. Dr. Rose Weaver '73Rose Weaver, Ph.D., an assistant professor of counseling and educational psychology at Rhode Island College, was honored by the Women's Center of Rhode Island at their Third Annual Women of Excellence Awards Luncheon, March 11, 2005, for her writing, producing, and performing of Menopause Mama.
