Process for Completing Direct Stafford and Perkins Loan Applications
Applying for a federal student loan for the
first time? The following instructions are for students who have been awarded a
federal Direct Stafford loan and/or federal Perkins loan from Wheaton College for
the first time. Please note that your loan will not be credited to your student
account until all loan requirements are completed in full. If you have been
awarded both a federal Direct Stafford loan
and a federal Perkins loan, you must complete a separate loan application
process for each loan as outlined below.
Not sure if you have been awarded a federal
student loan? New students may view their financial aid award through insideWheaton,
by clicking on the WINDOW link and selecting Student and Financial Records.
Returning students may use the WINDOW link from Wheaton's home page, or may click here to log in using their Window PIN. Please
note that new students are no longer issued WINDOW PIN's
and must use the inside.Wheaton portal to
access their WINDOW account information.
Federal Direct Stafford Loan Application Process:
Before a student can complete the Federal
Direct Stafford Loan Master Promissory Note and Federal Direct Stafford Loan
Entrance Interview, the loan must be originated by the Office of Student
Financial Services. Students will be notified via their Wheaton
e-mail account during the first several weeks of June with detailed
instructions on how to complete the promissory note and entrance counseling
session. The process is detailed below and students must complete both
components of the application process in order to receive their Federal Direct
Stafford Loan proceeds. NOTE: Failure to
complete the application process within 30 days of receipt of the notification
may result in the delay or forfeiture of the student loan proceeds.
1.)
Direct Loan Entrance Counseling is a federal
requirement for all students borrowing a Federal Direct Loan for the first time
at Wheaton College.
Students are required to complete Direct Loan Entrance Counseling before the
proceeds from the Direct Loan can be disbursed to the student account.

Entrance Counseling, click below and follow the instructions. Once the entrance
interview has been completed, do not forget to choose Wheaton College
