Senior Development Officer

Term: Full-time, 12 months

Reports to: Director of Major Gifts

Description: The Senior Development Officer will assist with the major gifts efforts at Wheaton including identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of individual prospects capable of making gifts of $100,000 or more and will manage strategies of select trustees and principal prospects ($1,000,000+) within a designated region. In addition, the Senior Development Officer will be responsible for developing effective cultivation strategies and performing direct prospect solicitations independently. She/He will also accompany the college President and other senior college administrators on prospect visits.

Requirements: Bachelor‚s degree and five or more years of fundraising experience with a focus on major gifts and an established track record of success in soliciting and closing major gifts or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Previous experience in a higher education or not-for-profit setting strongly preferred. The successful candidate will have strong organizational and interpersonal skills and excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must be flexible and willing to travel extensively during and after normal business hours. The ability to handle confidential information with tact and discretion is essential. Individual must possess these knowledges, skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.


Salary: Administrative/Professional Grade 4
