GIS Lab Monitor Procedures
Arrive promptly to unlock the door for your fellow students
To turn the alarm off, when you arrive:
1) Type in your 4-digit code
2) Press the "OFF" button.
To set the alarm, when you leave:
1) Set the doorknob to be locked and close the door
2) Stand very still inside the room
3) Type in your 4-digit code
4) Press the "AWAY" button.
5) Leave the room and close the door within 30 seconds.
Reporting your time
When you arrive, please call x5441 and leave a message, using the phone in the lab. This facilitates approval of timesheets.
Before you leave, call x5441 to check out.
Log into the Window to record your hours in your timesheet.
You'll receive email when it's time to submit your timesheet for approval.
Peer Software Training
Provide instruction to students who come for Peer Software Training Sessions.

Provide a welcoming and supportive learning environment.
As lab monitors, you are representatives of the Wheaton and of Library & Information Services. Both the college and LIS pride themselves on being service-oriented and trust you will be, too.
Say hello to people and remind them to save their work in the T: drive.
Display the "Lab Monitor on Duty" sign.
Make the room pleasant and neat.
Check for signs of low printer ink or paper. Get more paper from the Kollett Center. Tell Jenni about the ink.
Check that all the network cables are plugged in.
Finding substitutes. It's important that the lab is open as scheduled. If you can not work your shift, please do the following to ensure that the lab is open.
1) Contact other GIS Lab Monitors to see if someone is available.
2) Use Blackboard to email other LIS employees. You are enrolled for a course called LIS Student Employees. Send the message to all groups. Give them the date, time and location of the shift. When someone accepts the shift, tell them to call Public Safety to open and close the lab. Explain that people may arrive for software training, and should be invited back the next night.
