FACULTY SUPPORT

Academic Computing supports the Wheaton College faculty in the goal to graduate technologically-confident individuals. We are active in campus conversations about the goals and definitions of technology literacy, and how our students can achieve it.

To achieve those goals, Academic Computing is active in the day-to-day support of faculty members as they use computers and technology, both the standard productivity tools and the cutting edge applications. We also offer workshops to increase the awareness, capability and confidence of the faculty, to keep pace with the rapid pace of technological advancement.

The following is a subset of our organizational goals:

  • Research and interpret applications of new technologies for faculty
  • Work with faculty and students on special projects and pilots, including prototyping solutions to faculty requests for innovation
  • Work to increase technical competency of students by providing technology training, and collaborating with faculty to increase the effectiveness of computers in coursework
  • Design and deliver workshops for faculty, providing professional development in instructional technology pedagogy
  • Serve as liaisons for faculty and other information technology departments.

  • Develop, configure and maintain labs on campus dedicated to specific academic functions: departmental labs, astronomy lab, imaging lab, digital video studio, music lab, graphic design studio, language lab, GIS lab, etc
  •
