Emergency medicine involves a great deal of knowledge in anatomy and physiology, especially concerning various phenomena in the cardiovascular and the respiratory systems. 'ER', the popular NBC TV show, is known to contain detailed biomedical information. Studying selected patient cases from 'ER' should motivate the students to learn more anatomy & physiology, help them better understand certain physiological concepts, and make them recognize the important clinical applications of various information they acquired while taking an anatomy & physiology course.

This "Patients in 'ER'" program can be easily incorporated into a physiology course or an anatomy & physiology course. It should only take the first 10 to 15 min of lab and, consequently, will not reduce the class time or interfere with the time needed to perform the experiments each week. Meanwhile, it literally will make the course more entertaining without sacrificing any course content.

The procedure for this course component can be found here.

The students' reports on the shows can be found at the left, sorted by year.
