Action Plan for Majoring in Anthropology
at Wheaton

  • Consult the Anthropology section of the current Wheaton Catalog for information about our courses, and about requirements for the major and minor.
  • Schedule a meeting with the Anthropology Program Coordinator, Professor Donna Kerner, to discuss requirements and options for study abroad. Professor Kerner's office is in Knapton-Rm. 125, x. 3658. Her research is in East Africa and the South Pacific, focusing on education, development, and women in cooperatives, and she is engaged in ongoing fieldwork in Tanzania and Fiji.
  • Think about taking a Cultural Area course (early on) and a Topical Course of interest.
  • If you intend to go abroad during the Spring semester, be sure to take Anthropological Theory, as it is difficult to find its equivalent overseas.
  • If you intend to go abroad during the Fall semester, be sure to take Anthropological Methods before your fourth year of study.
  • Attend Anthropology Club Meetings and regional and national events.
