The Berlin Project
Mission Statement
Our project is to create a documentary dealing with different views of youth culture in Berlin. We plan to juxtapose the views of the older generation with the young, and to juxtapose the continuing East/West stratification and the onslaught of Globalization. Our foci will be the mainstream techno-culture, the radical-political cultures, and the foreigner culture. We hope that our end product will show Berlin youth culture as a unique cultural phenomenon: a reaction to the history of Berlin, especially recent history. We alsowant to show that Berlin youth culture is part of a global, nation-less youth culture, primarily because of the techno aspect. We would like to show how the youth culture is a product of consumerism; Berlin has become a symbol for capitalism, and the youth mirror this capitalist image with their consumerist tendencies.
